Lost Tears

Let me tell you a story about a boy who lost his tears. About how he couldn't even grieve their loss without them.

You should know that he only realized he'd lost them because he found himself in enough pain to need them.

You should know that not having them was about as painful as the experience he was going through.

You should know that he walked downstream from the place where he last had his tears. That he came to a massive cliff and suddenly realized how is tears would have carried him to his death had he not lost them.

You should know that he walked back to where he last had them and found a giant log-jam. That he carefully removed each log from the river. "Thank you for protecting me," he said. "Thank you for keeping me safe," he said.

You should know that he used those same logs to build a ladder to safely descend down the cliff.
And you should know that it was there he found his tears again, and they carried him the rest of the way to the ocean.

Sometimes losing pieces of ourselves is a matter of survival.
