Intentions
You used to hide in the garden
And throw rocks at me.
And when I'd say:
"Ouch that hurts!"
You'd say:
"There's no harm done -
It was done from a place of love."

It’s so hard when the people who hurt us hide behind loving intentions when we try to have a repairing conversation. I can leave those conversations feeling unseen, misunderstood, and more hurt than when I entered. I’m not sure we can ever see each other clearly when peaking out from behind our perfectly pruned bushes, or looking down from our lofty trees.
I am trying to learn instead the courage to step out from behind the safety of my good intentions to sit with people in the messy and the complicated. Where good intentions aren’t good enough.
